The School of Medicine was founded in 1942 and bears ever since as its official emblem a bust of Hippocrates (commonly referred to as the “Father of Medicine”). It is one of the four Schools of AUTh’s Faculty of Health Sciences and the largest School of AUTh. It accounts more than 30.000 graduates, some of them with a great impact on science and humanity. It has recently been ranked in an international evaluation top among the country’s seven University Medical Schools. Its human resources are of high quality, with faculty members who dedicated years to postgraduate education and professional training abroad and who continuously produce a high-level scientific and clinical workload.

MODERN CURRICULUM

THE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME IN ENGLISH IS A 6 YEAR FULL PROGRAMME  FOR FOREIGN CITIZENS.

The main goal of the School is to educate medical students as well as to provide health professionals with the highest scientific standards. An additional aim is to perform high-quality research frequently in collaboration with other Greek and international research centres. A student of this programme participates in various research programmes of the Laboratories and Medical Departments. It is of high importance for us the dissemination of all ethical values to students governing the medical practice as well as to ensure that young medical doctors will acquire all scientific knowledge which will enable them to diagnose and effectively manage health problems.

IN ORDER TO OBTAIN THE MEDICAL DEGREE STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE 83 MODULES (76 COURSES AND 7 COURSES – CLINICAL TRAINEESHIPS)

Clinical skills are shaped from the first semester and clinical rotations start from the 4th year. During the final year, students will be having a full-time supervised clinical training at the affiliated Hospitals. The duration of the undergraduate programme is 12 semesters and students have to accumulate 360 ECTS equally alocated. Upon successful completion, the students receive the Medical Degree (Ptychion Iatrikes), which is in accordance with the EU Directive 2005/36/E and gives them access to postgraduate studies (Masters), Doctorate in Medical Science (Doctorate Diplomas) and a licence to  practice the medical profession in the Public and Private Sector within European Union.
