Opportunities in the context of cooperation agreements between Portuguese and Singaporean Universities

  • Between the University of Porto and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) – a Mobility Protocol was signed on July 12th, 2025, foreseeing an exchange of 24 students from each institution over the next four years, focusing on additive manufacturing (3D printing), biotechnology, electromechanical systems and computing. Includes hosting programmes at NTU's 3D Printing Centre for doctoral and postdoctoral students.
  • Between the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and NTU – a Protocol was signed establishing the award of ten doctoral scholarships at NTU (3D Printing Centre) to Portuguese students. The first five scholarship holders will arrive in Singapore in January 2026.
  • Between the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria and NTU – a Protocol was signed for the development of cooperation projects.

Tuition Fees

At public universities, tuition fees for Bachelor’s and Master’s programs typically range from 4 000 SGD to 7 500 SGD per academic year. Private universities, on the other hand, tend to have higher tuition fees, with costs ranging from 4 000 SGD to 18 666 SGD per academic year for both EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA students.

Scholarships

International students can have their studies financed by study and research scholarships offered by private institutions, government entities, or partner institutions of the universities, through the establishment of national and international agreements or consortia.
Furthermore, the partnership between NTU and the Faculty of Sciences and Technology (Nova University) is noteworthy, with both universities jointly training 10 Portuguese PhD students.
In a related collaboration with NTU, an agreement was also signed between the University of Porto and the Singaporean institution, including a research exchange program involving researchers from the University of Porto and the Singapore Centre for 3D Printing.

Application Procedures

All applications must be presented at the university or polytechnic institution that students want to enroll.
Each university or polytechnic institution has different application procedures depending on the study program. This means different admission requirements, different deadlines and different documents.
